Gang members in gangs under the Crip allaince are known as Locs and all Crips call each other "cuz" (short for cousin) to signify that they see each other as family. The gangs under the Crip Alliance are mainly identified by the color blue which is worn proudly by all Crip members as a primary color. Each Crip set has significant differences such as hand signs, use of secondary colors, and customs. The Crip alliance has significantly branched out of California and has spread throughout the majority of the United States and went international.~~

Crip History
A 15 year old Fremont High School student named Raymond Washington started a gang called the Baby Avenues in 1969 in an attempt to be like the older gangs and copy the political activities carried out by other organizations such as the Blacc Panthers. The gang named itself the Avenue Cribs eventually and took on the niccname Cribs because most members were very young bacc then. The name Crips was first brought up in L.A. a Los Angeles newspaper in a artical about young Cribs with canes, as if they were crippled. A lot of people believe the name came to existance because of a spelling error. Either way, The name stucc and the Crips alliance was formed.
Stanley Tookie Williams is one of the co-founders of the Crips. He started his own gang called the Westside Crips. The Crips were very well known throughout southern L.A. as more and more people began to join. The Crips eventually became the biggest and most ruthless gang in California and began targetting the other non-crip gangs with daily acts of violence. In retaliation, all non-crip gangs, including the Pirus, later formed an alliance that eventually became known as the Bloods.
Along with a few other friends near his 78th Street home near Fremont High School, Stanley Tookie Williams and Raymond Washington created the Crips alliance with the initial intent of continuing the revolutionary ideology of the 1960s and mimicking the Black Panthers. They even made the word crip stand for "Community Revolution In Progress". They failed miserably in becoming a positive movement because of their lacc of political leadership. They later became obsessed with protecting themselves from the other non-crip alliance independent gangs in the community which began to increase violence and resistance towards the Crips. The Crips began to increase violence and take over new turf. Some of the other original founding fathers of the crips were Angelo "Barefoot Pookie" White, Melvin Hardy, Bennie Simpson, Greg Batman Davis, Jimel The God father Barnes, Raymond Cook, Eccy, Michael Christianson, Michael Shaft Concepcion, Macc Thomas and No 1.
Most Crip sets wear blue. Some people believe the origin of the color is from the school colors of Washington High School in South L.A. Other believe they started wearing blue because of "Buddha", who always wore blue shirts, khakis, shoes, and a blue bandana from his left poccet, which is why Crips flag out the left side. When Buddha died, Tookie made blue the Crip color in honor of his death. The Grape Street Crips, on the other hand, have been known to wear purple in addition to blue. The Shotgun Crips are in Gardena, California and have been known to wear green, the city color of Gardena, in addition to blue to show that they are from Gardena. Crips under the Gangster Card are known to wear Gray in addition to blue. Long Beach Rollin' 20's Crips are known to wear yellow and blacc in addition to blue. Crips under the Neighborhood Card and the Avenue Crips are known to wear baby blue. Fudge Town Crips are known to wear brown and blue.
All Hoover Criminal Crip sets began to use orange flags in addition to the blue flags to seperate themselves from the rest of the sets in the Crips alliance, essentially turning Hoover Criminal into it's own "Card" or "Car" for short. Cards are smaller alliances of individual Crip gangs within the Crip alliance itself, which gangs within the cards are known to put before the whole Crip alliance. Other Crip cards include: Neighborhood Crips (NHC), Trays (Gangster Crips or 3x), Deuces (2x), Blocc Crips, Coasts, NYCC (New York City Crips), and CC Riders (Compton Crips). Crip gangs strictly bang (go to war) to defend their territory (hood) before any alliance or card, and are known to be very vicious in their attaccs. Also, Crip sets are always trying to expand their territories and find new territories to take over which essentially makes their wars never ending. Crips are known to mark their territories and all boundaries by the use of extreme wall banging. Wall banging consists of marking territory with graffitti which shows what gang controls that turf or going into a rivals turf and crossing out their graffitti.
There are significantly more Crip gangs today than when the alliance was first created. This is because many independent organizations outside of California, and across the United States have also turned into Crip sets. All it takes for an entire independent organization or gang to become a Crip set is the will to become Crips, meaning any gang can become a Crip set if it chooses to do so. Many Crip sets have names which include the name of their City, a street that runs through their turf, or the name of the projects, apartment complex, or community they control. Crips are known to shout "CaRip" and "OoWoo" as a greeting to other Crips and to let their presense be known. Crips are also known to do a "Crip Whistle" which consists of 2 short bursts of loud whistles followed by a long burst of loud whistle.
The "Deuce" or 2x card is an alliance reference to various street gangs that are affiated with the NeighborHood Crips as well as Rollin 0's card. The majority of the sets affiated with the Deuce (2x) card are produced by the West Side Crips gang. A number of Deuces (2x) cliques are also allied with the Blocc Crips, which is an totally a separate Crip card.
Street organizations that are aligned with the "Deuce (2x)" card has been in conflict with "Tray (3x)" gangs also known as the Gangster Crips gangs ever since the 1970s.

By the 1990s, the Hoovers renounced Crips and decided to change their name, by replacing Crips with Criminals. They Claim "ABK" or "EBK" which stands for Anybody Killer or Everybody Killer. It was common to see "BK" (Blood Killer) as well as "CK" (Crip Killer) and "OK" (Rollin 0's), spray painted on the walls within their territory.
The Hoover Criminals Anybody Killer (ABK) model is similar to Mexican-American street gangs. Most Hispanic gangs in South Los Angeles, only ally are the Mexican Mafia. Their decision to wage an all out war against other surrounding Bloods and Crips as well as Hispanic gangs, severed several alliance's with many of their former allies.
The Hoover Criminals are allies of all Hoover sub-sets Their main ally outside of the Hoover Criminals, were the Main Street Mafia Crips. However, in 2009, their alliance ended on bad terms at a house party throw by the Main Street's, who invited the Hoover Criminals. Allegedly, the Hoover Criminals and the Main Street Crips, got into an confutation, followed by gun-fire.
The Hoover Criminals Gang have waged war on all Raymond Ave Crips, East Coast Crips, Neighborhood Crips, Rollin 0's (Crips), Rollin Hundreds (100's), and more recent the Main Street Mafia Crips. The 112 Hoover Criminals Gang feud with the Denver Lane Bloods, has resulted in a portion of the 112 Hoovers neighborhood being overrun by the Denver Lane Bloods.
The 1990s, Anybody Killer (BK/CK/OK) mentality and brutal nature, have amounted in countless casualties of gang-related shootings. Due to their constant feud with rival gangs, this is the most dangerous area in Los Angeles, to live and raise a family. They also are involved a deadly feud with the South Los 13, a Sureño gang that turned racist.
The Compton Crips is a large umbrella, made up of several sub-gangs located throughout the city of Compton, California. The Compton Crips, was founded by Mac Thomas, in the 1960s. Mac Thomas were allies of the Westside Crips led by Stanley Tookie Williams, who is also the co-founder of the Crips.
Mac Thomas and Tookie Williams, were introduced by a mutual friend Raymond Washington, founder of the Eastside Crips and Co-founder of the Crips. However, in 1971, Mac Thomas resented Raymond Washington for forming an alliance with the Piru Street Family (Piru Crips), who were arch enemies of the Compton Crips. Nevertheless, by 1973, the Piru-Crip alliance soon shattered after constant conflict.
Mac Thomas and Raymond Washington, were both arrested on separate occasions. Meanwhile, on the streets there gangs broke up into several smaller sub-sets such as the Grandee Compton Crips, Park Village Compton Crips and the Butler Blocc Compton Crips. By the mid 1980s, there were over twenty active street gangs under the Compton Crips umbrella.
Mac Thomas and Raymond Washington, shared a similar faith, both were murdered after being released from prison. Mac Thomas, who was the undisputed leader of the Compton Crips turned full-time hustler. He was allegedly murdered by his crime partners, for his stake in a robbery heist, according to Blue Rage, Black Redemption: A Memoir By Stanley Tookie Williams.
C.C. Riders (Compton Crips Riders) pronounced CC Ridas, and often spelled with a Z (CC Ridaz). The term CC Riders was discovered by Fredrick "Baby Gangster" Staves, who is affiliated with the Santana Blocc Compton Crips. Along with fellow comrad Big Marcellus, together they formed CC Riders, in the Los Angeles, County Jail in 1986. Which, consisted of an alliance between all Crip gangs, who falls under the Compton Crips brand.

Nestor Ave Compton Crips and Duccy Hood Compton Crips. All of the following Compton Crips gangs is defunct and no longer active: Butler Blocc Compton Crips, Burris Blocc Compton Crips, Grandee Compton Crips was named after a street in Compton, called Grandee which is now consider part of Nutty Blocc Compton Crips territory.
In 1971, a gang on Piru Street in Compton, California, known as the Piru Street Boys, was formed and associated themselves with the Crips as a set. After two years of peace, a feud began between the Piru Street Crips and the other Crip sets. It started when a Crip killed a teen after refusing to hand over his jacket, the Piru Street Cryps were against attacks on innocent civilians and confronted the set. The Piru Street Crips was meant with hostility from other Crip sets not liking their belief about not harming non gang bangers. It would later turn violent as gang warfare ensued between former allies. This battle continued and by 1973, the Piru Street Boys wanted to end the violence and called a meeting with other gangs that were targeted by the Crips. After a long discussion, the Pirus broke all connections to the Crips and started an organization that would later be called the Bloods, a street gang infamous for its rivalry with the Crips.
In September 1979 a 15-year-old member of the ETG's nicknamed Bootsy got into a fight with a teenaged member of the Rollin 60's Neighborhood Crips named Tyrone over a girl who had been dating both young men. Before this incident and the gang war that resulted from it, the Eight-Trays and the Rollin 60's were close allies, even participating in fights and shootings together against the Bloods. In a subsequent fistfight between the two teenagers a new recruit to the ETG's, eager to make a name for himself, pulled a gun and shot Tyrone to death. Tyrone's older brother, a member of the Rollin' 60's, demanded that the ETG's hand over the new recruit to be punished by the 60's and to prevent a war between the two gangs. The ETG's were unable to find the new recruit, who had already turned himself in to the police. The Rollin' 60's, feeling that the ETG's weren't being honest, murdered a member of the ETG's in retaliation, shooting the young man in his face six times at point blank range after he was ambushed on his front porch. A meeting was called by the leaders of both gangs in an attempt to end the fight. However, because tensions were high with both gangs, the meeting erupted into a gang rumble, after which the Rollin' 60's and the ETG's engaged in a gang war that still exists to this day.
The Hoover Crips are at war with all sets of the Coaster Crips causing high casualties on both sides. The Hoovers also declared war on sets claiming the Gangster and Neighborhood Crip gangs. Crip on Crip rivalries are so intense that few Crip sets went as far as to team up with local Blood sets to fight their Crip rivals. The PJ Watts Crips teamed up with the Bounty Hunter Bloods to fight against the Grape Street Crips. 95% of Crips in California at war with other Crips causing heavy casualties in the alliance. The Crip on Crip violence took more Crip lives than any war with any Blood set. Crip on Crip wars are not only just in California, areas with high numbers of Crips usually have Crips going to war with other Crips. In New York, Crip on Crip wars have been going on for almost 20 years but is not as deadly as the wars in the West Coast. It is right to say that the Crips' biggest enemies are other Crips.
During the 1970s many Hispanic gangs started showing up around the Los Angles area. Many of the newly formed Hispanic gangs formed a Latino gang alliance known as the "Surenos". The Surenos represented Hispanic gangs in the Southern California area, the Surenos will later be controlled by a known prison gang called La eMe a.k.a. the Mexican Mafia. The Mexican Mafia formed an alliance with a known white supremacist prison gang called the Aryan Brotherhood. In exchange for the newly formed alliance the Mexican Mafia took on the Aryan's number 1 rival the Black Guerrilla Family a known black prison gang. The BGF is made up of Crips & Bloods that hit the prison system and needs protection from other prison gangs. The Mexican Mafia and BGF war intensified so much that the Mexican Mafia put a "Green Light" on all blacks in Southern California, the act was known as "Ethnic Cleansing". The Surenos being the foot soldiers for the Mafia carried out the hit and started targeting African Americans on sight. Many of the people that were attacked were members of the Crips, this started a war between the Crips and the Surenos.
The Coaster Crips have along deadly war with one of the Sureno's largest gangs Florencia 13. The Crips had a hard time fighting the Surenos because of their ongoing war with the Bloods and high volumes of Crip on Crip violence. The Surenos also has a high volume of Sureno on Sureno violence creating rifts between the gangs. Not all Sureno gangs followed the order from the Mafia and didn't like the race war that they started. 18th Street is considered to be the largest Sureno gang in California, 18th Street teamed up with a few local Crip sets to fight against MS-13, Florencia 13, the Avenues, Logan Heights, and the Bloods most notably the Almighty Black Peace Stone Bloods. Varrio Largo 36 has a no hostility pact with the Santana Blocc and the Mona Park Compton Crips, this is because they live in the same hood. Few Gangster Crip sets also has an alliance with the Playboy Surenos against rival Sureno, Crip, and Blood gangs. In Compton race wars is at its highest mostly due the war between the A.T.F Compton Crips and the Compton Varrio 70's and the Tokers. Also the war between the Poccet Hood, Original Front Hood, and the Anzac Grape Compton Crips against Varrio Lokos 13. The war with the Surenos is so intense that a few Crip sets squashed their beef with other Crip sets and even teamed up with local Blood sets to fight against the common threat. Currently Crip and Sureno war is still going on taking numerous lives. Crips outside of California have an advantage on Surenos, this is mostly due the Crips alliance with the Folk Nation and the Surenos have beef with Nortenos, Bloods, and the People Nation. Non West Coast Crip and Sureno beef is not as intense as the war in L.A. but the two organizations still feud with each other but on a much smaller scale.
NOTE: Most Crip sets outside of California are named after LA/Compton sets to trace their gang roots. NY is one of the few states with their own homegrown sets, however most are considered fake because their not connected to the original Crips in California and they make their own rules and knowledge.

During the 1990s, many Crips moved up north to places like Canada to get in the growing drug trade. The Crips built strongholds all around Toronto mostly in the poorer Black neighborhoods in many housing projects. The Crips started recruiting neighborhood kids that wanted to take part in criminal activities, most of the kids recruited were African Canadians and African Caribbean immigrants. One of the first Crip sets to emerge was the Doomstown Rexdale Crips, started in the late 1980s, the gang was made up mostly Afro Caribbean immigrants. The gang was originally known as the Jamestown Crew but changed its name after Crips from California told them to join the Crips. The newly formed Doomstown Rexdale Crips started spreading the Crip culture and made other local gangs join the Crips. Soon after the Rexdale Crips was formed, which included the Doomstown, Stovetop, Tandridge, Mount Olive, Bergomot, O-Blocc, and the Humberline Crips. The Rexdale Crips became the largest gang in the area and attacked any gang that refused to join the Crips, in reaction to this many gangs started representing the Crips biggest rival, the Bloods. The Bloods mostly resided in the Down-Bottom area of the Jane and Finch neighborhood, because of the war between the gangs from Up-Top and the gangs from Down-Bottom gangs in Up-Top started representing the Crips to fight the Bloods from Down-Bottom. The first Crip set coming from Up-Top was the Driftwood Crips, who together with the Shoreham Crips, G-Side Crips, and the Young Bucc Killer Crips formed the Up-Top Crip alliance. Another Crip faction was formed in the Scarlettwood Court complex which included the Scarlett Blocc Crips, Falstaff Crips, Tretheway Gangster Crips, and the Ghost Town Crips. With these 3 Crip alliances the Crips later became Toronto's largest gang with having thousands of members.
Many other Crip sets started emerging all around Toronto most notably the Eglinton West Crips, Glendower Crips, and the Bay Mills Crips. The Crips were even successful in recruiting one of Toronto's most dangerous homegrown gangs, The Gatorz. The Gatorz was formed to combat the rising Crip and Blood sets in West Toronto, after warring with the Pelham Park Bloods and Chalkfarm Bloods, the Gatorz decided to join the Crips. This made the Crips one of the most deadliest gangs in the city, but because of the growing Crip on Crip violence most notably with the Up-Top Crips and the Rexdale Crips it stopped the Crips from conquering Toronto's streets. The Bloods were more united than the Crips so many Blood sets took advantage of this and attacked the Crips. The Crip on Crip war was so great that the Darkside Crips became defunct after having a war with both the Glendower and the Bay Mills Crips. Darkside later came back but dropped from the Crip alliance and became Bloods, enraging all local Crip sets. The newly formed Darkside Bloods were backed up by local Blood sets to fight the Crips. Rivals of the Crips include all Blood sets, Latin Kings, 5 Point Generalz, Jungle City Goonz (turned Blood), MS-13, Point Blank Souljahs, and the Project Originals (turned Blood).
The Crips have been known to work with the Folk Nation. There have been documented examples of Crips and GD's coming together throughout the south in places like Florida and Memphis and in the midwest in cities like Detroit and Kansas City since the late 80's, but the Crips are not part of the Folk Nation. An alliance started between the two organizations with a cease-fire/hood share agreement between Crips and the Gangster Disciples that originated in San Diego California in 1991 called the "8 Ball". The alliance of the local Gangster Disciple decks and Crip sets was so they can rival the lucrative Blood/People Nation alliance that has been going on since the 70's in Los Angeles, California.
The 8 ball alliance gave an opportunity for Larry Hoover (GD leader) to do something productive to earn parole and be released from prison, so in October 1993 he had the GD's on the streets organize a "peace treaty summit meeting" in Chicago, bringing in Crips from all over the continental USA, as well as a lot of GD's and sympathizers to the GD "cause". This peace treaty set off similar peace treaties around the U.S. between Crips and GD's, most notably in Kansas City and New York City. The year 1993 would therefore signal the year in which "Crips" would align themselves to aid the "Folks" (particularly GDs) against rival gangs like the Bloods, Vice Lords, Latin Kings, etc. Today, "Crips" and "Folks" are allies and help each other out when it is needed. It was not a hard treaty to make: both Crips and GDs wear "blue".
They called this alliance the "8 Ball" because of the shape you get when you merge the "C" handsign of the Crips with the "Pitch Fork" handsign of the Gangster Disciples, which is how they greet each other to show Crip/GD solidarity. Unlike the Stones who actually became a Blood set to align the People Nation and Bloods, Crips and Gangster Disciples remain 2 separate organizations that consider each other "first cousins" in the streets. Crips and Gangster Disiples share hoods and resources all around the country and Crips help GD's against rival gangs trying to take their turf.
The "8 Ball" has been known to be "cracked" in some areas where the local Crip sets were pressured to return to their Los Angeles roots and stop aiding the Folk Nation, leaving both gangs/alliances to fight a bloody war for sole control of that hood; these instances are very rare. Contrary to popular belief, Crips do not use any secret books of gang knowledge and gang prayers like most gangs do. Some Crip sets, however, simply use their own unique code words to communicate with each other.
Many Crip sets have begun utilizing the number 6 to rival the Blood's 5, but they don't represent the Folk's 6 point star. When a Crip uses the number 6, for them it signifies the 6 letters found in the phrase: "C.R.I.P.U.P." or "Crip Up". The word "C.R.I.P." is actually an acronym that stands for "C.ommunity R.evolution I.n P.rogress". When a Crip is using the 6 point "C.R.I.P. U.P." It stands for "C.ommunity R.evolution I.n P.rogess - U.ndying P.ower". Crips are also known to use the phrase "Crips don't die, we multiply", meaning they will never disapear because they will always branch out and create new Crip hoods forever. Many Crip sets have been given passes to use the number 6 in their tags if it is to represent them as Crips and not Folks. Crips using the 6 point star or throwing up pitch forks are considered to be fake Crips.
NOTE: CRIPS ARE NOT PART OF THE FOLK NATION. THE TWO ORGANIZATIONS ARE JUST ALLIES TO HELP FIGHT AGAINST RIVALS AND TO EXPAND THEIR CRIMINAL ORGANIZATIONS. CRIPS ARE ALSO ENEMIES TO THE NORTENO ALLIANCE AND WHITE SUPREMACIST GANGS.
